Wow, I treated myself to a Johnny Marr Jaguar, after spending the better half of an hour testdriving it.
As always, I’m late to the show, and just now found this interview in Guitarworld from 1993 where J and Kevin talk about their guitars, tunings and music. Great read. :)
J Mascis: I like the necks on older guitars. They’ve been worn. Somebody’s played it. It’s like a baseball glove which somebody has broken in for you or something. And …
I made a small change to the guestbook, now you can reply to a previous entry and that answer will be shown inside the original entry. Hope you like it.
I updated the “Exploring the Mastery Bridge” piece with my experiences after rehearsals and gigging with the bridge and added more pictures.
Ye olde stuff
Such a helpful guide and fueled my search and lust for a Jazzmaster. One CIJ 1994 Candy Apple Jazzy with mastery bridge attached later and I am a happy boy. Pluckin steady! Very much obliged. Thank you so much.
Oh some info on the frets would be useful. Changing my frets to jumbos would be the only addition I could make. Any recommendation or experience doing this would be helpful
Hast Du irgendwelche Infos ?
Danke im voraus
Having recently bought a CIJ Jaguar I found this website to be a wonderful mine of information.
Many thanks to those who have made this such an interesting and helpful place to visit.
Thanks for the set up info, great site. Just played a gig with my new Johnny Marr Jag. I think it’s going to be my new #1.
Oh wow, the Johnny Marr is my no. 1 want object… how does it play and sound, compared to a “normal” Jag?
There’s a lot of little changes but mainly the neck and pickups, The neck is fatter, plays nice and makes the whole guitar feel stout, like a Les Paul. Don’t know what they did with the pickups but they sound really good. The bridge is a little Tele, a touch out of phase and real clear piano sounding on the low notes, perfect on country stuff. The series/parallel is cool, you can get a lot of sounds out of this thing. It’s still a Jag, but a highly evolved one.
How is the non-reverse wound thing an issue? I noticed that the bridge/neck combination does not cancel out hum like it does with the original wiring? You happen to have experience with that in live-situation? thx again, Tom
Thanks for all the advice about trem set up very helpfull indeed.
Thank you so much for the jaguar tremolo page. Have finally got the tuning stable – I hope – and your guide was a massive help.
All the best
Ben
Hi
Very nice site with lots of good info :-)
Maybe you can add some info about the Staytrem upgrade!
Its a great improvement for the bad precision of the original tremolo arm.
Finally the tremolo feels good.

hi Björn, thanks for the hint, I will have a look into that – Tom
Hay,
Just bought a 98 Jaguar CIJ. Thanks for the tips on setup etc.

I am now the proud owner of a MIJ Jazzmaster. I have only had it for a couple of days, but I already love it. I have owned 2 Strats but the JM has a different vibe., that is just plain cool.
Hi, I also thank you for this web site! I play an Elvis Costello model JM that I really love!
