Welcome

fellow Jaguar and Jazzmaster connoisseurs…

You’ve come to my very own place of worship of Fender‘s Jazzmaster and Jaguar, the wonderful, but often underrated guitars, once designed to be the top-of-the-line models in Fender’s production line.

Here you will find plenty of information on these two guitar-models and their specialities, strengths, and problems. Information that I collected since 1999, when I got me my first Fender Jaguar, and was intrigued by the oddities of that guitar.

Hopefully you’ll find what you came here for. :-)

Timewarp: 1993 Interview with Kevin Shields and J Mascis

As always, I’m late to the show, and just now found this interview in Guitarworld from 1993 where J and Kevin talk about their guitars, tunings and music. Great read. :)

J Mascis: I like the necks on older guitars. They’ve been worn. Somebody’s played it. It’s like a baseball glove which somebody has broken in for you or something. And even though the old stuff is getting more expensive, it still can be cheaper than buying some hideous modern Nuno guitar. Modern guitars are just shit. I can’t understand why anyone would want one. And I don’t understand why having a guitar that is real easy to play is considered a good thing. I always thought it was bad–you start playing too fast.

Fredboard radius helper

I needed a quick way to determine if my bridges allow for a good setup regarding the fretboard radius. Normally I would trust my eyes and fingers to determine if the distance of the strings from the fretboard is roughly the same arc as the fredboard’s radius… but wouldn’t it be nice to have a little helper to check the radius while fiddling with the saddle-height screws?
